The ^ is actually an &. so it's CD=10 & C(4,-3) & D(x,5). It was a typo =)

4.8 is the answer if that was a slope problem. Because you set the problem ((5+3)/(x-4))=10.

CD = distance from C to D
use pythagorean theorem since x and y are naturally set at 90 deg.
distance y = 4-x
distance x = 5+3

10^2 = (4-x)^2 + (5+3)^2
100-64=16-8x+x^2
0 = x^2 -8x -20
(x-10) (x+2) = 0
x = 10, -2
