There are about 100 billion stars in our galaxy alone, and there are about 100 billion or so galaxies. So if you figure that even one tenth of these stars had planets and one tenth of them had life, you're still looking at trillions of likely candidates for life. (Check out the Drake Equation if you want a better idea on how good the chances are!).
But the problem with aliens visiting us is NOT the likelihodd that they exist, but rather the vast distances we're talking about. Nearest star is 4 light years away.
So even at travelling speeds thousands of times faster than we can conceive of, it owuld still take hundreds of years to reach us. That's simply to far for some E.T. to swing by and have a look-see and then leave.
So, while I think there is undoubtedly life out there, I think we haven't been visited by it and the sightings thus far are mistakes or hoaxes.

It used to be that UFO sightings were rarely photographed or filmed, due to the lack of every yokel having a camera of some sort.
It used to be that tornado sightings were rarely photographed or filmed, due to the lack of every yokel having a camera of some sort.
Nowadays, just watch the Weather Channel. Almost every tornado that is reported has video accompanying the report because every yokel with a cell phone is using the camera feature to film the tornado instead of running for cover.
There still is not an increase in UFO photographs or film footage even though every yokel has a cell phone with a camera on it.
Has the number of tornados increased? No. Has the number of UFO sightings decreased? No. The advancements of technology should have provided some good photographs by now. The problem is that the aliens are SO advanced that they have the ability to block the imagery from the video phones.

I have a pretty good idea that aliens are the angels of the Bible. They very likely did the actual physical labor of creating the solar system, the earth, and establishing life on earth. They probably have done a great deal of genetic engineering experimentation with life on earth, up to and including the human species. They will likely return to earth at the last minute, to save us from nuclear annihilation.

it is a big universe and how conceited I would be to assume the Earth is the only planet with life on it let alone intelligent life.
