The key to self- discipline is motivation. You really need to want to change the things in your life that you want to change. Set a goal...start slow and when you reach each goal reward yourself.
For example; exercise - start a daily chart where you exercise for 10 minutes three times a week for 1 month. After the first week you can add 5 more minutes to your exercise routine. upon completing your goal give yourself a reward. The dollar store is great for this. I can always go and find something I want but I make myself earn it. You will find completing a goal will give you the added motivating needed for other areas. Good luck! Do not get discouraged if you slack off of your goal just get back into the routine....never give up something you want badly enough to make a difference in your life. :)

A large part of having good self-discipline is to have a strong value system, and avoiding agents of instant gratification (TV, video games, fast food). Value system can be built by meditating and reading books on ethics. Dicken's books can help build humility. Having a strong sense of nonconformity can belp avoid agents of instant gratification.

Write a to do list and check things off as you complete them. Break big things down into little parts (i.e. I want to lose weight becomes eat only 1600 calories today).

the harsher method is to realize that the will is a muscle and the more you use it , it will get stronger...

The easiest and nicest way to do that, is to motivate yourself. 30 min, and you can watch your recorded t.v. show... or after an hour, you will finish with your favorite music on...
