OMG yes.... slap them back and the give them a severe punishment too. Make them realize you aren't going to take it...
But if you start with the kids at an early age that they will be punished for doing wrong things...they wouldn't hit you.
Parents are usually the ones that screw up the kids behavior by trying to be friends instead of parents... be friends when they grow up... as kids be their parent!

Its rather interesting, so many parents are fine to say ''i'll slap the crap out of him'' or whichever yet no one seems to care why this is happening? why the child is portraying this behaviour? Spanking a child isn't always the best way to go about things, i never was spanked and i was very behaved.

I would take everything that means something to them away and not give it back until you're ready too. I would also ground them from doing anything for a long time. Maybe even send them to anger management class!! I don't know if they have a class like that for young kids but you know they are not gonna want to go to it. And tell them that everytime they hit you, or show any violence you will send them back there.

Well That's a good one I like you would want to. Then I would have to step back and think why would they do it. Most of the time they need help hitting them back is not showing them it wrong to do it. Just don't let it get that far.

smack right on the butt with a wooden spoon. that's a lot milder than what i got when i was growing up. But i would be surprised if my kid hit me though. Hitting each other isn't a form of play in our house.

Hmmm...battling violence with violence...that just seems wrong to me. How are you supposed to teach someone not to hit when you hit them???? If your child is hitting you, there are huge issues that should be dealt with through a counselor.

Grounded is the word, with some chores to make him humble.
Hitting back does not make things right.
