I work in a small office with little room to grow. I should have been the next in line. I don't have a lot of options as far as the industry I work in. I need this job for at least the next 6 months.

If you work in a small family company (and are not a member of the family) you are going to be repeatedly passed up. Resign yourself to finding a job elsewhere, even it f\it takes 6 months.

You could embark on a program toi enhance your employability in some related business. Perhaps there is a course you could take at your local Junior college to improve yourself and while away the 6 months.

You are already over the worst part by being able to express your feelings. This is like grief - you lost something you hoped/planned for. It will take some time and you will feel a range of emotions. While your feelings are still fueling your courage, go to the promoting team and ask them to assist you in identifying factors which would help you get the promotion next time. It's tough, but it's class - which is what they want.
