what ben b said about taking active things to break the cycle is good, and a nice hot tub is good too, as an aid to relaxation, a walk in the country if possible, and chamomile tea, its an acquired taste but worth it, but as ben and i both seem to think, breaking the cycle of the depression is the most important thing, dont dwell on it, dont give yourself time to think about it, this can only lead to a deeper sense of gloom, find an outside activity you like, maybe even volunteer to help with a good cause, anything to make you more active in your approach to daily life, and remember, you wake up in the morning breathing..............if you can do that, take a look at the day as a bonus and smile

I have used herbal St. John's Wort, homeopathic Valerian, or herbal Valerian root (which does not smell very nice , but no matter). A very nice easy remedy is a Bach Flower remedy called Rescue Remedy. You can put 4 drops on your tongue or in a bottle of water and sip it during the day. it helps take away that really awful feeling. Now I don't use anything and escaped without ever using harmful allopathic medicine. it really passes, but it also helps to count yor blessings. The items I mentioned are available in Health food stores. Oh yes- and Yoga really helps too. Good Luck.

I have the same problem myself and i would not add any other herbal pills as you do not know in what way these will combine with the meds that you are on.
I find that going to the gym and working out (HARD) helps to lift my mood and eating healthy foods and avoiding getting pi**ed also helps... Also something called FLEX oil is good 15ml over something like a salad... getting good rest and not just sitting staring into space is also good... Hope this helps!!! Give it time and you will start to learn how your moods work and be able to control them better

First you need to consult with your prescribing doctor on weening off the anti-depressants appropriately. At the same time discuss the natural approach with B- complex vitamins, St. John's Wart, L-carnitine, kava kava, and valerian root. These can all be very effective.

St Johns Wort can be very effective in some people. BUT...it doesn't interact well with a lot of prescription medicines, so always best to check with your doc or pharmacist before taking them.
Good luck.

i beleive st john's wort is thought to be an SSRI and have pretty much the same mechanism of action as prozac and other SSRIs (except not as strong). so really it doesnt matter if its natural or not, all that matters is how it interacts with your body. one of the few herbal things that has evidence to back it up. talk to your doctor though before you add it or switch to it, just because it is "natural" doesnt mean you might not have a drug interaction/adverse side effects

I agree with John P. St. John's Wort is a natural remedy which, according to many, seems to work.
But it shouldn't be taken alongside prescribed antidepressant medication, should you choose this option.
If your current meds/dosage isn't working, best to see your GP, as sometimes it's a bit trial-and-error, to see what works for the individual, and your doc can adjust accordingly.
