We have the Evenflo Triumph 5 for both of our kiddos. It's around $110, so average in cost, but very high in safety ratings -- one of the best on the market.
Is your daughter also 20 pounds? The rule is one year AND 20 pounds as a minimum before turning a child forward-facing. The longer you keep her rear-facing though, the better -- it's just a safer position in terms of absorbing crash impact and protecting her body. We kept our daughter rear-facing in her Evenflo until she was 19 months old (34 inches tall, 24 pounds). She was comfortable sitting with her legs bent -- kiddos that age are SO flexible. We only turned her around when her brother arrived, because the bench configuration in our van didn't allow for two rear-facing seats.

yes you can ask the doctor that would probably be a good idea. I have an Eddie Bauer booster seat its nice my daughter is now 3 and she has had it since she was 1 1/2 it reclines so if she falls asleep we can lean her back....
Its more personal choice though

I'm a preschool teacher. As long as you get one from a reputable store, it has been approved for use and will be fine. Just be sure to secure it properly into your car and strap your child in, or it's useless.
