Well, age has nothing to do with it since Dirk Nowitzki is 28 years old, while Kevin Garnett is 30. Garnett has been in the NBA longer, entering the league straight out of high school and playing 11 seasons. Nowitzki, on the other hand, entered the league when he was 20 and has only played in 8 seasons. So, while Garnett has a little bit more experience than Nowitzki, he also has a lot more mileage.

While we all know they can both score, no one player really stands out over the other when looking at their statistics. (Garnett averages more rebounds, Nowitzki shoots better from behind the 3-point line, blah blah blah, etc.)

I won't get into a debate on who is the better player skill-for-skill since they both bring different things to the basketball court. Therefore, I think it all comes down to the intangibles.

Nowitzki, at this point in his career versus Garnett, does seem to be the better all-around player at this moment. Plus, he has led his team to at least one NBA Finals series.

Garnett? Mr. King of the First Round Exits? Even with that one Western Conference Finals appearance, he's about as good as Stephon "The Con" Marbury when it comes to bringing his team to the promised land.

Nowitzki, based on his age, actual NBA playing time, skills, and accomplishments, just has more upside to him right now and I'd want to chase a championship with him instead of Garnett. A couple of years ago, I would have said the exact opposite.

So to answer your question: yeah, I guess it's a fair trade on paper, but a general manager who already has Nowitzki on his roster would definitely be making a mistake in making a trade like that for Garnett.

I have one word for the panel. DEFENSE!!!! an aspect of the game DIRK will never posses. As far as taking a team to the Finals, I would too if I have Jason Terry and Josh Howard playing like their lives depended on it. Name ONE potential all-star that GARNETT has had in the past two seasons, and please don't mention Wally whats-his-name. Garnett has put his heart on the court for 10 seasons! Yes his numbers have slipped, mainly because management can't woo quality players to fight alongside him. Dirk has always had a guy to take the pressure off of him. I guess everyone is forgetting about STEVE NASH AND MICHAEL FINLEY huh? Put Garnett in Dallas and you'll get Big numbers that will be better than Dirk's.

For every one that says Dirk look how he faded when his team needed him in their last 2 playoff runs. No guts no glory. its a tight game and you score 2 points in the fourth quarter an you lose!!!!! Garnette has the same kind of issues hes paid super star money but he doesent take over an elevate his teams play but he has more heart than Dirk. Give me KG.

Dirk has elevated to a new level above Garnett....even though KG is still one of the best in the game.

Let's be real, the Mavs built around an all around Forward like Dirk. KG wouldn't fit in that offense. The deal would never be made!! KG is a better PF in a team that can help his talent.

No way. Dirk is much better. KG is old and not as efficient as Dirk.

It all depends on alot of things for example the morale of KG... if he is happy then he could become the KG of old and prove he is the best PF in the game... but also the fact that Dirk is as good as he is now could cause many problems for KG.. playoff time Finals time and the shooting skill he offers?? I dunno could be good but also very bad
