i'm a 15 1/2 year old female who is about 5'5 2/3.... i've always been the tallest person in my class, ever since i was in kindergarten. everyone always thought i was going to be really tall - like 5'8/5'10. my father is 6'4 and my mother is 5'6-5'8 (i'm not sure). my father's father was 6'3 and his mother was 5'8. my mother's father was about 6'5 and her mother was about 5'1... this leads me to believe that i should be tall, right? i always have been, but i'm not anymore. i looked up my "genetic height POTENTIAL", based on my parents' heights, and i have the POTENTIAL to be 5'9. I looked up the calculator that uses my current age (15.75) and it says 5 feet 6.1 inches.. how can i be shorter than my mother, whose the shorter parent and MUCH shorter than my father.. WHEN I'VE BEEN TALL MY WHOLE LIFE. my mother said she grew an inch or two when she was around 18. do you think i'll grow anymore?? i would like to be at LEAST 5'6.5.. but would rather be around 5'8.

I am the shortest in my family and with your one grandma only topping out at 5'1" you have the genetic potential to be the shortest in your family. There is nothing you can do about it and you may or may not get another half inch of growth. Ignore the charts and graphs, because as they said, they are only listing the potential. We all have potential in many areas, we don't always achieve it. Concentrate on the person you want to be on the inside because that is what is going to determine your quality of life, not how tall you are. Relax and see what happens in the next couple of years. You cannot control it anyway!

I'm afraid to tell you that sometimes you don't get what you expect based on genetics. If you didn't get enough calcium and vitamin D, maybe your bones weren't able to grow as long as genetics would have gone for. You might grow a little more, i grew a couple inches since I was your age. But definitely make sure you're getting plenty of calcium and vitamin D.

You might grow some more. My dad quit growing at 13, he was already 6'5" so it was a good thing.

You got a few more years. Quit worrying about that.
