The least expensive sheets which also have a low thread count gets lint balls on them and there quite scratcy. You really need to purchase high thread count sheets, I know there more expensive but well worth it for comfort and how long they will last you.

Definitely try a 100% cotton high thread count sheet (400 or better). Also, look for Pima or Egyptian cotton, SINGLE ply. Double ply is NOT better, it only increase the thread count with a lower grade of material. Also, wash in warm water and dry at a medium to low heat.

You buy 400 thread count or better. Less than that thread count, because of the loose weave, will result in "pilling" when washed. Go to overstock.com and search for bed sheets. You'll see. Ohhh and when you sleep on them.

You can't prevent it that I know of, I had the same problem b/4...I had to take a razor and lliterally shave my sheets,( No I didn't need shaving cream.)Plus they were getting old. After the second shave I threw them out (ha). true though...
