Since you said North American, and it had to be known, around the world, I would say The Stanley Cup.

In the U.S., we have the World Series Trophy for baseball and the Super Bowl Trophy for football, but these trophies and awards are not well known around the world.

I say Hockey! eh?

there's a strong case for the Stanley Cup. Even though the world series could rank up there, due to the international players comming in.

Probably the America's Cup.

Until recently we had an iron grip on the thing, and sailing is a global sport, albeit one that doesn't garner wide international interest.
