I am from New York, I wanna know about Intentional Torts?

Assault, Battery, False Imprisonment, Defamation, Invasion of Privacy, Trespass to Land, Conversion, Interference with Contractual Relations, Fraud. Does anyone know the rankings of these intentional torts (misdemeanor, felony etc.) and if so the punishment for each. Thanks a Lot.

The quick answer to your question is "Torts are a branch of civil law meant to provide a civil litigant with an opportunity to have a redress for grievances caused by another party."

While assault is a criminal offense-- death with by State's Attorneys or District Attorneys-- it is also a tortious action that a party can bring to civil court and use as a legal basis to seek damages. Actual damages can be sought (what it actually cost the person) and punitive damages can be sought (a monetary penalty to punish the losing defendant). (However, small claims actions often do not allow for punitive damages.)
