PS Magellan proved the world was round, not Columbus

Columbus initiated the destruction of countless American Indian civilizations. Columbus brought something with him to the New World that no one of his era would have thought of: germs. Disease and epidemic raged across North and South America in the decades after Columbus' arrival. These epidemics virtually wiped out over 90% of the indigenous people of the Americas. Historians often estimate the "pre-discovery" population of the Americas to be only a few million at most. However, these historians do not take into account that disease killed most of the Indians long before anyone sought to estimate their numbers. Much like the buffalo, the American Indian was decimated from a high population of approximately 100 million to less than two million over the span of two centuries.

well, in the short-term, many diseases were brought to the Americas and Caribbean. the native peoples were expected to just let the new countries take over and destroy the lives they had created for themselves, and anyone who stood up for their rights was killed for the most part. this happened even though the people who came over to the new world from Europe were looking to gain freedom from European powers. the European countries were looking to gain $$$ and expand their power.

long-term... look at what has happened to these places. they have become heavily populated and completely built up for the most part.

whether good or bad, that is give and take based upon personal opinion.
