By Honda-only do you mean an OE (Original Equipment) Honda battery or a battery that fits a Honda?

"Older" is rather vague, but your Honda should require either a Group Size 35 or a Group Size 51, or possibly 51R (reversed polarity) battery. The sizes are not interchangeable. If the battery location is towards the back of the engine compartment, on the Passenger side, it is most likely a Group 51, or, possibly, 51R. If the battery location is towards the front of the engine compartment, on the Driver side, it is most likely a Group 35.

Your local automotive professional can give you more details. Stop by.

Not just any battery will do. 12 volts is 12 volts, but Group Size is determined by the actual size of the battery, the placement of the contact posts, and the Cold Cranking Amps necessary to start your car.

If by Honda-only you mean battery Group Size, yes
If by Honda-only you mean battery manufacturer, no

You will need a battery that is made to fit your car. An auto parts store will be able to tell you which one to use.

If you try to put the wrong one in it may have too much or too little power for your car to start. It also might not fit into the place the battery goes.

Too much power can over load the electrical system and risk a fire.

You do not need a battery from the Honda dealership, any battery that is made for your car is safe. By Federal law any one that is made for your car must meet factory standards.

As I said the parts store should be able to fix you up with the right one. There should be several to chose from.

Any battery that will fit, and that has at least the minimum cold cranking amps required will do. Some Hondas do require a special size battery to fit in correctly. You can buy these batteries from most battery suppliers!

aslong the batterie has the same size and capacity, any does !
i personally i wouden't buy a brandname,they are more expensive
Go to your local supermarket (some are offering batteries, here they do ) spend approx. 40 or 50 bucks, and bob's your uncle !
and they last almost as long as the "good" ones.
They even would survive your Honda Civic :)) !
