I DO NOT want to do anything illegal! At&t guy- i do not live in the at&t area, live in the now called windstream area used to be alltell. One of the shopping channels has even had the box thiing on the air that you can hook up, yes, I know there is subscription fees with a company for the box....

More service AND lower price than Vonage

Splitter is the lay mans term. Just about any Electronics retail store should have one (Radio Shack, Circuit City, Best Buy, The Good Guys, maybe even Wal-Mart, K-Mart or Target) for sale.

However, without a phone service provider, you will not legally have phone service. you must have a company that provides your Dial tone, regardless on whether its through a cable company or telephone company.

And no, there is no way to use a phone line (legally) without having a company provide the dial tone for you.

Secondly, I would recommend NOT going to Vonage. I have worked in the At&t Customer Returns center (where people come back to At&t after trying another phone company/cable company) and have heard nothing good about Vonage's service.

Of course, I would recommend calling At&t and checking out our prices. Our DSL can be had for as low as $12.95 per month for the 1st 12 months (unlike most companies that offer their lower price for a mere 3 months, sometimes 6 months).

Our phone company sent us little things called filters. It's basically a little box that plugs into the jack in the wall. It has two jacks, one for the phone line and one for dsl. It just splices the line and cuts out interferance with the internet and phone, but I don't know where you would buy them, everything that you need should have been delivered from your phone company.

Your internet service provider will provide you with a modem that hooks the phone line into the modem directly so either service is interupted when in use.

You put the phone and DSL modem on a treadmill. :)
Okay, I could explain it all, but why bother?
