-Either the starter solenoid (the battery + cable goes to it) is stuck in the on position or the starter button is stuck in the on position.
-To check the solenoid - with the key on, unplug it (not the 2 thick wires). If the starter motor stops, then the solenoid is OK. If it keeps running, then the solenoid is bad.
-To check the switch - with the key on, unplug the handlebar switch. If it stops, then the switch is bad. If it keeps running, then there's a short in the wire harness (loom).

the starter is stuck in the forward position, try tapping on the starter next time it does that. If it has a solenoid( or starter relay) that could be sticking. Just replace it thay are fairly cheap

the starter solenoid is welded closed -probably due too cranking with a low battery. replace the solenoid (after installing a hot battery)..
