A small Styrofoam ball with stickpins (like, hatpins, map pins, that kinda thing. The pins with the little colored balls on the end.)

Put the nucleus stuff on the foam ball. You can scrape away around the little blobs of the nuclear particles if you want to be fancy. Or get several little fluffy colored craft-ball things (next to the colored felt in the craft section of your local whatever-Mart store) and glue them together for the different particles. Or just take different Sharpie markers and color different sections of the ball. Then, mmmm, get some cotton balls or better yet, some of that Halloween spiderweb stuff. Pull on the cotton or web stuff until it looks fluffy and floaty and wrap it loosely around the "nucleus." Then poke the pins through the fluffy stuff--ta-da! An electron "cloud" with electrons on the outside! Wheeee!

Why wasn't I this creative in high school? Only now that I've been out of college for years...

I deserve extra credit.
