She told me that my thyroid level was very low.....What does this mean? Does this mean that my thyroid is underactive or overactive.....hyperthyroidism or hypothyroidsm ???? I just don't understand. She said she felt a nodule on one side of my throat. I have to have a thyroid ultrasound. What does all this mean????

It is a very confusing thing! I just went through that last year myself. I am sorry to say I still don't totally understand what the doctor is trying to say. First I am told that my thyroid is low, then was told it is called hyperthyroidism. Makes no sense to me either. I do know that when you have a lump on anything it needs to be checked out to see if it is going to need to be removed or just treated with meds. I hope you find your answers and I hope they are all good.

that depends on if you are talking about the thyroid hormone itself or the thyroid stimulating hormone (tsh) level. in hypothyroid the tsh is high and thyroid hormone low, in hyperthyroid the tsh is low and thyroid hormone is high. usually check for both in thyroid disease. a nodule on your thyroid could be responsible for the problem. your doctor should have discussed all this with you. you should go back or call them to explain it.

Usually people with a low thyroid level are over weight. Medication will help you sustain a normal activity level..not to worry I don't think it is a serious as it sounds.

You should have asked your Dr all of this today. They are the real ones that know. If you have questions give them a call.
