Does anyone know anything about coming up with an idea for a play? Please keep reading.....?

Question

Here is what I have to do:

For this assignment, you are to come up with a play idea that is influenced by some other piece of art. The influencing piece can be visual (painting, sculpture, photograph, etc.), or musical (songs, musical style, etc.). It should NOT be something narrative (i.e. another play, novel, movie,etc.). The idea is to take something non-narrative and create a narrative from it.

Please note that the assignment is not asking you to WRITE a play. Rather, your task is to describe the play that you would write under the influence of whatever visual or musical piece you choose.

Your essay should include the following:

* a list of characters
* a description of the setting as it would appear onstage
* a detailed summary of the action of the play, from beginning to end


The purpose of this assignment is to experiment with the concept of influence, and to attempt to think from the perspective of a playwright beginning to work on a new play.

Listen to a song like Led Zepplein's "The Battle of Evermore" which is a song that already really has a story in it and then create a play about the story in the song, that is the lazy man's way of doign it.

Write a play about the early times of Kelly Clarkson leading up to american idol.

* parents, friends, promotors, etc.
* school, home, recording studio
* starts in high school and ends when she first walks on stage at american idol
