That's the associative property. Applying the commutative property to your equation, you will get
6 + (5+x) = (x+6) + 5

no it isn't it is the associative property
the commutative property switches the nuber like 4+5=5+4
associative property switches what's in the parenthases
5+x is in parenthases and on the other side x+6 is in the parenthases
so it's the associative property

i don't think so.....i'm pretty sure it's associative. examples:
Commutative Property: a+b = b+a
Associative Property: (a+b)+c = a+(b+c)
Identity Property: a+0 = a
Property of Zero: a + -a = 0
Good Luck
