"The United States Postal Service (USPS) is an "independent establishment of the executive branch" of the United States Government "
I guess the only department you could complain to would be the office of the Postmaster General.

I am a postal worker and The Federal Government regulates the postal service. the best thing you can do if you have a problem is find out who the Postmaster is in your town and type up a letter . letters get the best result, make sure you have all of your documentation if necessary and be clear about what exactly the problem is, you can also call 1 800 ASK USPS to file a report over the phone for complaints, I hope this helps

What unfair advantage does the postal service have? If anything, it's congressional mandates hamper it, as they force it to provide services to rural areas (who are more powerful in Congress) that will never turn a profit. The Post Office is yet another example of how urban centers support rural areas. The Postal Inspection Service's budget is paid for by the Post Office. Which means they pick up a greater tab then the private companies, who can use local and federal agencies to police their companies for free. It isn't as if fed ex pays for the dogs to sniff it's packages.

The USPS is regulated by acts of Congress. If you have not had a lot of luck at the local level you can always use the "Contact us" link at the very bottom of USPS.com In your email make sure you ask for the addresses and phone numbers of the district and regional offices for your area. Being able to contact the Postmaster's boss is always a useful tool for getting problems fixed.

At your local post office you can make complaints to the manager, if he /she cannot take care of your problem there is always the postmaster at the Main branch.in your city. This number might help you also 1-800-275-8777, its automated but at the very end of the call their is a customer representative. (live person)...Who regulates the U S P S,? There is a committee in Washington D C who sets the standards, but unfortunately you won't get to 1st base over there, maybe if you wrote a letter???

The postal service is now a monolithic private enterprise. Use only sparingly and if there is no other recourse. I mailed a birthday card to my sister who lives 20 miles from me. It took 10 days for her to receive it. You should have heard the lame, stupid excuses the post office gave me for that "mistake".
