Yes, but note that some people have learned to give firm handshakes in order to give the impression they are confident and in control.

The generalities are:
- weak, limp handshake = weak, limp person
- firm handshake = confidence
- overpowering grip in handshake = Governor of California, Arnold Schwarzenegger
- wet (perspiration) hand = nervous person
- handshaking for too long (I guess more than 15 seconds) = just plain weird. Probably a politician or used car salesman.

There is another aspect: palm up or palm down. Some people offer their hand only palm facing down, so you have to meet them with your palm facing up. That is considered a form of intentional domination.

Finally, if someone offers you their hand, and they are hiding a toy mechanical buzzer in their palm, then are sophomores in high school with a juvenile sense of humor. Or a clown escaped from the circus.

From a personal standpoint, a firm but not overpowering handshake gives me the impression that they are happy or pleased to greet me (that they care). A limp shake or indirect eye contact, tells me they wished to be anywhere but there. Too strong, tells me they plan on controlling the friendship or meeting. Just my feelings.

I believe so. Usually a limp handshake will mean they are shy. shaking with a firm grip means authority. Shaking with the other hand over the other persons hand means you are very welcomed around the other person.

Yes, I think so. A strong but not overly strong handshake is important. A person that gives a weak handshake has got problems. So does the person who tries to squeeze your hand so hard it hurts.
A good firm handshake has always been important socially.

I think I can. A solid firm grip means they are sincerely pleased to meet you. The palm dead fish grip means insecure and wishing to be somewhere else. The finger grip is "I'm bothered". No shake means they didn't wash their hands when the went to the bathroom.

Yes. Never trust anyone unless s/he has sweaty palms, a weak grip and won't meet your eyes.

NO. People say you can, but it's such a commonly known teaching now, any jerk can squeeze a hand "right."
