It seems that there is a general lack in teaching our children to be kind and compassionate, so how will we ever find peace in the world? Whenever we cause suffering to other living creatures because of expediency, denial or self serving, we serve as an example of cruelty to young people. Whenever we seek vengeance, rather than understanding, we serve as an example of cruelty to young people. The question is whether we are becoming more cruel than previous generations or less so?

You have a great insight! I agree with your current forecast of the world's condition. I do believe, however, that the world is going through a frictional process of integrating humanity and its superficial differences --- although it may seem we're becoming more distant from one another.

I see many people, communities, and nations putting in the necessary efforts to heal our weakened world. On the Web, there are social communities such as Zaadz.com and LifeTheory.com that are trying to establish a new form of authentic and meaningful communication.

I would also recommend reading...there's plenty of inspiring literature out there. I would especially recommend "Promise Ahead" by Duane Elgin (www.awakeningearth.com). I hope my personal input and resources are of value to you and your inquiry. All the best - Christian.

There are times especially in the past few days when it's easier to believe that people are getting more cruel. Just today in Lancaster County, Pa. in an Amish community a gunman walked in to a one room school house and killed 3 young girls and then himself. Unfortunately I think another girl died on the way to the hospital. I'm not saying Amish children are more special than others, but they live such a simple life, no TV, no modern conveniences so in a way the children are more naive than other children their age in the "outside" world. They DID NOT DESERVE TO DIE.
A principal of a school is Wisconsin was shot by a 15 yr. old who had brought a shotgun and a hand gun to school. The principal later died. HE DID NOT DESERVE TO DIE.
A day or two before that in a school in Bailey, Co., there was a shooting in a school. Six girls were taken hostage, one was killed. Some were sexually assaulted. NONE OF THEM DESERVED WHAT HAPPENED TO THEM.
When I hear things like this, I truly believe that certain people are becoming more cruel, but not everyone.
I don't believe these KILLERS were "sick". I believe they were evil.
However to balance their evilness, look at the people who step forward and help those who need help especially in situations like this.
I would really be afraid of being in school during this period of time.

I am a trauma nurse in a local hospital and the hate and violence I see to human beings is unbelievable and out of control. Children coming in beaten and unconscious because their parents have beat them in a drunken/drug stupor. The innocence even from when I was young in the 80's is so lost. I miss the times when I could go out on the sidewalk with my friends and roller skate. Now you have to worry that child molesters or kidnappers will take your children and do horrible things to them or kill them. I don't know how many times I have seen a child/adult come in with gray matter hanging out of their brain because they were shot by someone who doesn't even know them. When will this suffering end? Why must we kill each other to prove a point? Why must our children have to grow up in a world like this? Even when children are innocent now they are said to be gay, because they like to dance and believe in Santa or magic or the wonder of the world's beauty? Please end this we all can if we all take a stand and make a change. Being nice to one person could really make a change that could last a lifetime. Children really need to fight to have a childhood and not be made to grow up as little adults. They should feel safe and happy. Not thinking about whon they want to sleep with at 10 years old. I had a patient who was 10, she was pregnant with twins! By a 28 year old! And the parents didn't want to prosecute him because they said their daughter was in love! What is this world coming to? The End that's what! Cruelty is rampant and is ever-growing!

It seems that way, but in primitive cultures, there was/is an indifference to the suffering of others, especially other creatures.
I think there is a greater awareness now about the feelings of other creatures and, on the whole, I think we are more sensitive to that. There is also much more awareness of what other people are doing and bad things tend to be emphasized.
The death penalty has been abolished in many civilized countries where once they meted out horrifying punishments.
That is not to say that there aren't still monstrous atrocities taking place. But, I think on the whole, we are getting a little more empathetic.

MORE so ! SAD isn't it ? But you see, we as Christians ( SEVENTH DAY ADVENTISTS ) believe everything the WORD OF GOD/BIBLE says . IN IITim 3 : in the LAST DAYS will be PERILOUS TIMES... men shall be despisers of those that do good... CHILDREN will be DISOBEDIENT TO PARENTS..... LOVE OF MANY SHALL WAX COLD... All these are to those who do not believe in the SAVING POWER OF JESUS ! When we ask JESUS to come into our lives, he gives the PEACE , NOT THAT THE WORLD GIVES. We see prophecies are fulfilling and very SOON JESUS will return from Heaven and take us home . He said that He has gone to PREPARE us a PLACE/HOME and he will come BACK !!! How do we KNOW ? PROPHECIES are fulfilling and SIGNS OF HIS COMING are everywhere irrespectful of where you are in thi sinful world. You see, the Bible says that " a fool says in his heart that there is no GOD ".. that is why people who are not in Jesus will not believe His WORD/BIBLE and as a RESULT ? The things you have mentioned above and many more are happening in this world. I can tell you this plain THRUTH : ONLY those who are TRULY in Jesus will have peace of mind. These will teach their children to do the right things all the time... and these right things will continue into the NEW Heaven and the NEW EARTH. You know the Bible says that in the LAST DAYS, it will be like the DAYS of NOAH and SODOM/GOMMORAH. In Noah's time, the bible says that EVERY IMAGINATIONS OF MAN IS CONTINUALLY EVIL and thi made GOD regretted HIS CREATION of mankind. Fortunately, Noah , his wife, three sons with their wives were saved from the flood. In Sodom/Gommorah, the most dominant sin is HOMOSEXUALITY... all the men of the city demanded the two MEN ( angels ) to have sex !!! Aren't these sins MULTIPLYING and becoming acceptable in the socities ? Marriage of SAME SEx ? Do not marvel and be surprised because tha bible had foretold of these thousands and thousands of years ago ! God would not like the human race to be surprised but to be prepared and do good... for such are his people..... Well, we could talk for ages and if need be contact : srjione@yahoo.com GOD BLESS.
