I know that I do because I have been a waitress and bartender before. I actually usually "over tip" unless the service is completely horrible.

I think it's terrible when people leave lousy tips. If you go out to eat then you should expect to pay extra because of a tip.

I have four kids, and most of the time the server earns every extra buck I can leave. Servers are like babysitters... if you pay well, you're served well. A bad reputation will only get you worse service. And when you're going someplace frequently, it's because you like the food and the service.

Btw, when it comes to buffet-style restaurants, I leave a dollar for every time the bus person comes to the table to clear dishes!

In answer to your question "Do you tip your server well when you go out to eat?" Yes, if the server serves well! I've been in situations though where the service and the food were horrible and I left a 5 cent tip.

I agree, I also used to be a server and I tip really well. The little perks you get back are great too. If you go to the same place all the time and you tip really nice, it all comes back in kindness and little freebies, y'know? I believe in treating people as you would like to be treated and I'm a firm believer in Karma, so tipping well only makes cents (oops, I mean Dollars, don't tip in cents.. that's cheesy) ;-)

If the service is good I tip extremely well ($5 minimum, even at places like Denny's and IHOP). I've been known to leave as much as $20 if the service is good.

Yes, my husband and I are both excellent tippers. Even when the service sucks we usually tip above what is necessary. I've been a server and remember what it felt like to work your butt off and make crap for a tip.

At least I never got stiffed!

Absolutely, they work hard, get low wages, and rely on tips. It's a hard job. I always thank the waiters and anyone that is involved with service, at my table. I treat each of them, respectfully, in a professional manner. I typically, over-tip.

I have waited tables for years, so I am overly critical of my servers. When they do a good job, anticipate my needs, and dont act like I should be thankful that they are even there, then yes, 20 - 25 percent.

I tip an appropriate amount for the service I receive.

Yeah I try to do like 15% or more. If the service stinks I do like, 10% flat. If it's good I do as much as I can afford.

I agree. I used to be a waitress too so I also overtip unless service is horrible.
