Hi
I have been charting my ovulation cycle since last 3 months. And i found out that i ovulate just a week before my period starts. I had pre pregnancy check up & had the blood test, pap smear done. everything was normal.
But no luck so far. I am worried is it bcoz of the late ovulation that i am not able to conceive. Also last 2 months i had bleeding for just 2 days and it was very heavy with strong menstrual pains. i never had such pains bfr.
Also i have read somewhere that late ovulation may cause miscarriage, i dont know whether this is true.

Kindly advise me on this & how shud i increase my chances of getting pregnant.

Average luteal phase (time after ovulation, but before the 1st day of your cycle), is 12-14 days, a minimum of 9 days, and a max of 16 days. To lengthen your luteal phase your progesterone is probably low. You would need to get a test done after ovulation to test your progesterone levels. You can get a progesterone cream from Arbonne, or just do a search online. Or have your doc give you a Rx for it. I don't know if insurance covers it when your not pregnant. And if you have the tendency to have lower progesterone, you should take it in your first trimester that is a HUGE reason for miscarriage that can be treated. After a few cycles you will see your luteal phase lengthen. A shorter luteal phase lessens the chance of pregnancy and increases your risk of miscarriage it's not when you ovulate, it's how long from your ovulation day to when you start your period that is important. I don't ovulate till cycle day 20-25 sometimes, but don't start till cycle day 35. Good luck and I hope it helps.

Here is a link to Arbonne International they sell the cream and it also has some herbs mixed in the cream that help regulate women's bodies and will help with your luteal phase. It is the only one I know of that is all natural and is pure. Once you get pregnant you would stop using it and start taking the progesterone from your doc. Good Luck again!!

PS about the previous poster, clomid increases your progesterone levels so inturn it helps you ovulate AND helps your progesterone levels. If you are ovulating on your own, progesterone might be the only thing you need. Ask your doc which way he would want to go, also don't be afraid to go to someone else if he doesn't take you seriously. Take your charts too, so that they can see what you are talking about. Good luck to you too Kelley!! I've used clomid and it gave me 3 of my little girls.

Edited to add...
Please don't think or believe that ovulation has to happen 14 days before your period. Every women is SO different, and there is no way that everyone is like clock work. Some women have a 14 day luteal phase, but even then if they have a consistent cycle of say 28 days, they can ovulate a few days different and still start on cycle day 28. Ask your doc, he will verify this. Any one who knows about charting will see in black and white, that it differs month to month and EVERY WOMEN IS DIFFERENT!!

Here is a link to my charts, one is a pregnancy one from my last daughter, and one is a previous cycle before...

I have had the same problem as you. the only thing i can tell you is to have sex about the time you would normaly ovulate and do it at least every other day before you ovulate you have a better chance of getting pregnant that way because sperm can live in your for 3-7 days. Another thing would to put a pillow under your butt after sex and your legs up and hold it there for about 20 to 30 mins so the sperm can swim there faster. and the gravity will help pull the sperm down more. I hope this helps. And just because you ovulate later then you thought you were going to doesnt mean that you are going to have a miscarriage. thats a myth. i have ovulated late before. it can be due to stress and eatting habits that have changed and many other reasons. well i hope all works out for you and i hope that i helped a little best of luck to you =D

Hi there, late ovulation or short luteal phase could make it hard to become pregnant. I know because I am having the same problem and my doctor is putting me on Clomid as of next month to induse earlier ovulation. We have been trying for #2 for 2 years. This is something you may want to discuss with your doctor and see what he/she suggests.

I really do not think it is physiologically possible to ovulate seven days before you're period begins. When ovulation occurs it is always 14 days prior to the onset of menstruation. Some women's cycles are longer in the beginning, but ovulation is always two weeks before menstruation.
Good luck!
