My apartment allows pets, but you have to pay $350 a month, and I refuse to. I have an apartment as well, and the pet I have is a Guinea Pig. She can be loud when she wants to, but not to the point where the neighbors are complaining. The only time she makes noise is when she hear's the salad bag or wants some colder water. She also shows a lot of emotion. When I come home from work, she chirps and squeals outloud..and she will start hopping around the cage. Then, when I pick her up, she gives me little piggy kisses and falls asleep on me. She's so adorable..but all guinea pigs have different personalities. I recommend them though...especially since you're looking for a cute quiet animal that shows effection.

Normally I would recommend a ferret. They are small, cuddly, furry, use a litter box, and make very little noise. They do have a musky smell, even if they are descented. But the smell can be controlled by keeping adding supplements to their water and by keeping their litter box clean. They can live in a cage, but need to spend at least an hour a day running around.

HOWEVER, if your lease says no pets, don't get anything other than fish, and only if you have your landlord's permission. Too many animal end up at the shelter because the landlord make someone get rid of the pet. Please don't try it.

I would say a rat mouse or hamster because you said you were looking for a cute great pet but they can get messy with all of the ceder chips. they begin to scatter. but they are lovable. but since your ladlord lives adove you that may ba a little to messy for the house. But then again you can't go wrong with a small lizard or gecko or even somthing like a fish. they are low matniance and small and out of the way. also a turtle is a good pet but they need matniance, but they are clean and live a ling time. just make sure to not to get a pet that is small but will grow more and become larger. good luck!

p.s. sorry if I gave to many suggestions

Bunnies make wonderful, quiet pets. I live in an apartment that allows only "small caged pets" so I got a rabbit. It's not too hard to cordon off a small area so that your bunny has a safe place to play and exercise. He's quiet, clean (he's even litterbox trained), and lots of fun to play with. Do keep in mind that rabbits generally aren't big on being held. However, they love cuddles, are quite affectionate, and make good little companions.

Not a rabbit, because they are as much maintancance and more as a cat/dog, and could damage furniture and need a lot of room. You want a pet that will show affection, so not really a hamster, although they are nice, they won't REALLY know you (same thing goes for mice). Guinea pigs might work, but you should get a pair, and they need a lot of room. No fish for obvious affectoin related reasons. Birds make too much noise. No cats/dogs for obvious reasons. Reptiles aren't really affectionate, believe it or not, surprisingly, rats would be a good idea for you. They don't make much noise, are well behaved, affectionate, and extremely intelligent creatures.

Get a pair of female rats, they are fairly easy to take care of, they sleep during the day, they love human company and are very affectionate towards their owners, they will kept each other and you entertained with their antics, they are furry and most landlords do not consider a caged animal a "pet", hamsters don't care about people, your landlord might smell and hear a ferret and rabbits destroy everything and have sharp claws that will make noise . Rats Rule!
P.S If you do get rats, make sure you research them thoroughly and do not use cedar or pine bedding because it causes respiratory infections

By "don't get caught" you mean having an animal there without letting the leasing office know??

Please reconsider. I know pet deposits are expensive, but so is having a pet. Food, toys, vet care all add up, and it is unfair to your pet to withhold any of these things.

Plus, apartments sometimes to random checks, or can come in to spray (this is in your lease, they may enter with or without warning you). If they find a pet there, they will change you the deposit, and can seize the pet.

I have seen TONS of dogs and cats on death row at animal control because their owners didn't pay the deposit, and couldn't afford to pay to get the pet out.

Honestly the most easiest thing to own is a goldfish, as long as you buy a good filter you won't have to clean it out as much and it doesn't have to be fed very often. If your looking for something more "attractive" then something like a betta fish or guppy would suite better although it requires a little more attention. If your looking for something cuddly then go for a Syrian hamster, but don't go for a Dwarf from personal experience I can tell you they smell more :P

Bunny rabbits are sooooo adorable, and cute, and cuddly! But they do stink. So I would suggest maybe some fish. But the problem with that is you can't cuddle fish. So a cat might be OK, but if it pees all over the place then, that's not good either. All pets have draw-backs. So you'll just have to decide. But I would SO get a rabbitt.

I think you should get a reptile. A lot of people have a problem with snakes but you could get a gecko or a frog or a bearded dragon. They may not be cuddly but they can be interesting. You could also get a fish. Maybe even a hamster.
