Hard to say what'd the problem without bringing your bunny to a vet. Can you bring your bunny inside? that is much healthieri for the bunny and you get the joy of knowing your bunny.

Sometimes small baby rabbits will get a white-brownish mucasy substance that forms over the eye. To keep the eye open, you have to pull the eye open on a daily basis and put a drop or two of Visine in the eye. The active ingredient that helps cure it is about a 2% solution of Boric Acid. If you look on Visine you'll see that.

If the rabbit isn't a baby (about a month old or less), then it is probably something else and you need to take your rabbit to the vet.

Have been raising rabbits for 24 years and learned some about rabbit medicine from Doctor Terry E. Reed, who was the premier expert veterinarian in rabbit medicine when he was alive.

Rabbits eye color can change while they grow. I had a dwarf mix a while ago that had very dark red eyes because somewhere in his lineage he had an albino mixed in there. You can always get a vet or a reputable pet store to take a look at him to make sure it is nothing serious but from the sounds of it I wouldn't worry too much.

Is it an abscess? Is he exposed to other animals, or if it is a bug bite did he scratch it so much it got infected? Try hot compresses and you may need to get an antibiotic. If Peter stays outside make sure you have some kind of fly repellant in his cage. I lost 2 rabbits to larvae.

You need to take it to the vet. There is nothing you alone can do. You also need to bring the rabbit inside. This is the kind of thing or worse that can happen to an outside rabbit. http://www.rabbit.org
