I would use a 1 1/2 to 2 inch mat with a smaller mat under it extending 1/4 inch in so you have 2 mats. It really adds an effect. For example a brown 2 inch mat just inside the frame and then a 1/4 inch white mat between the brown mat and the picture. This should bring out the picture and make it look like it was expensive to do. Use an exacto knife to cut it to have clean cuts. If using thick mats hold the knife at a 45 degree angle to give it an extra look, it will make a difference.

The size frame you need is not available as a ready made. On a print that size, I would personally take it to a framing shop and let them do it professionally. Ready made frames are not square. Anything even close to a 20 X 20 would be 20 x 24, 24 X 30, 24 X 36. To have your mat(s) cut with an XActo knife looks like an amateur who has hacked it and looks terrible. Unless you are a professional framer, you can not make your print look nice, not without some help.

If you cannot afford to have it done right and the print is not expensive, I'd just put it on a poster board and forget the framing job. Anyway, good luck!
