Oh well, being smart or educated might get in the of doing impulsive things or acting on an impulse. Why do you think some people say, Only Fools Fall In Love? If you only acted on what your brains or education told you to do, you would never be in love.

It has been my experience in the businesses I've owned and/or operated over the years that people with "an education" in the field I was in were huge hindrances. Not enough "real" knowledge in the subject matter at all...just what they learned from books and professors without any practical experience.

I've worked with people that have had MBA's and Marketing degrees, but lacked any common sense regarding how to actually operate a business!

I really had my eyes opened when I would be asked to be a guest lecturer for several business classes...taught by professors who had never once owned or worked in a business!

When I turned up for these classes dressed in shorts, a polo shirt, sporting long hair and ear rings...and then shared things with the students like, "I didn't have a business plan for the first five years of my business" they looked at me as if I had lost my mind. I loved doing those lectures, because I felt like Rodney Dangerfield in the movie "Back to School" when he starts telling the professor and the students what it's really like in the real world of business.

Heck, I have no idea if I've made my point or not, is there anyone here with an English degree?

**raises hand** Uhm........monitor..... thank you for the perfect set up. *ahem*

Then there are those with a formal education that also agree with all you said. I have a degree to teach English and I look back at my formal education and wonder, "What part of those classes actually taught me HOW to teach???" *shrugs*

But does the degree get in the way? Only when people think that the person with the degree THINKS they know more than the person without said degree.

My best friend above is NOT an example of this. He knows that I know what I know.........while he knows that he knows what he knows. He knows I don't profess to know all........just as he knows he has so much to teach me.

I think there is no problem with people with or without formal educations. I think it is all in how you approach it and what prejudices you do or do not carry.

Truth is........we all have the abilities and talents prior to college. College is just a tool.......one of many.

These days its seems the more education you have, the better off you are. Its almost a necessity for survival. My field of education has allowed me different choices in my career!
