there are so many variables there....if you have been working on cars since you was 9 yrs old like I have...then experience is not a problem. the question is...how much money do you have to invest in the property to operate on...insurance...and trust me you will need that...epuipment and payroll if you plan to hire other technicians. It is not a cheap business to get in to. and trust me..customers can be hard to deal with. You not only need the equipment and the experience...you need good PR skills. Also...do you keep your own books? If you have to hire a CPA to keep your books...then that is something to look at too.

In the car business people expect something for nothing...trust me you will do a brake job and you will have a customer complain that the head light is out and it wasn't out when it came in there....frustrating it is.

Keep your chin up and good luck

As a teacher I fully agree and support Churchont's answer.: think of yourself as the client - would you bring your car for work to be done by someone with anything less than the qualification, training and experience gained through that training? A good and lasting business is built on confidence, trust and reputation - if you don't have all three of these facets in place your business won't last five minutes - and you will lose all the goodwill and repeat business that goes with that - something that's worth more than gold I promise you.

You would need much more than just experience! The most important thing required in establishing any business is to have sufficient finance to cover your set up costs, and, a well thought out 'business plan'. Be prepared to make a loss in your first year of trading.

years is not a issue for yo but experience is important. do you have a mechanics license, if not study and get one............if you do, watch, listen and learn from the boss, many things you need to know how to manage a garage, other than doing work on the cars, you need to know bookkeeping, how to figure estimates, including your expenses for the shop, utilities, fees, insurance, employee taxes, health insurance. how many employees you need to hire, how to keep your employees. i suggest you take some small business course for general knowledge before you try to start up your business,......
and while you are learning the things you need to know, save save save. you will need some big $$$ to start up, for rent, purchase of tools, equipment, and other costs........good luck

Until you learn to spell, don't even think about it.
Finish school, go to trade school.
After you've been at it a few years, then think about it.
