I'm not sure your sources are all together reliable on some of your facts. I agree it should be legal and I think most people would agree. Look at Canada, if it weren't for the states hatred of pot, Canada would probably have legalized years ago.

I don't know about the cancer issue, and I am certain doctors don't think weed is "better" than cigarettes, or than alcohol if it is used moderately. Smoking is bad for your lungs, throat and mouth no matter what substance you are inhaling.
as to why marijuana is illegal, that is because the American government needed a way to get Americans proactive about keeping Mexican citizens from crossing the border back and forth to work in the States. The Americans wanted to control the border, but it was too big, so they started a campaign to make Mexicans appear dangerous to American citizens. Hoover and the FBI worked to ensure Mexicans were considered crazy and dangerous because they all smoked the "loco" weed , which would make you homicidal, licentious, rapacious and basically psychopathic. A lot of these myths persist to this day. Look up the history of the FBI and the American government re: measures they have taken to demonise Mexicans. Marijuana was a tool in this propganda campaing and the campaign is still highly successful to this day even though the information about the history of these matters is free and available for all to investigate.
Alcohol used to be illegal. Why did they legalise it? A look at that question would also help you to understand why it is legal and weed is not.

I think you've been listening to the Dr's that smoke too much weed. Weed is not any less harmful than cigarettes -- probably worse.

But, I do agree Weed should be legalized or at least decriminalized. But then how could we justify spending SO much money on drug law enforcment and locking up all the pot heads?

that is not exactly true because 1 joint is the same as 1 pack of cigarettes. why is 1 legal and the other not, probably because our polticians can't help but sit on the fence. legalizing it would b to easy just like make electricity out of water is too easy, ergo, no one is gonna legalize it because life would become to simple and they wouldn't have anything to whine about.

Yeah, right! What you have written seems to speak for itself!!! People don't seem to function very well while under the influence of marijuana.
