When my girls were newborns I always wanted to keep them very close at hand. It was always so difficult having to move her from the swing to the baby carrier to the crib. It bothered them more than anything else. My husband and I would like to have another child I was wondering about getting a moses basket. However no one that I know has ever used one. I wanted to know from anyone who has, and what they liked and well didn't like about them. Give me your opinion, should I get one or not?

They are very, very common in England - I used one for my son, and it was great. You can move the baby from room to room without disturbing them, and we didn't even get a basket stand, but just put the basket in the big cot when it was bedtime. Because the basket is so small, when they wet or soil the sheets it doesn't matter, because they are so easy to change - with some you don't even need to get special sheets as an all-cotton pillowslip will fit over the mattress just as easily!

They can only be in the basket for about 4 months, then they get too big and have to be moved to the cot.

I used a moses basket on my second child and it was fine she used to sleep peacefully and there safe as long as you use the correct mattress in them, the only thing with them is there not very big and don't last long - as soon as your baby is more alert and moving around - they stretch out and can touch the sides with there little arms so they look cramped - if your worried about moving around and disturbing your baby - get an extra stand so you just have to move the basket from one room to another.

My sister in law decided that she was going to get a playpen with a bassinet top to keep at her house so our son would have a place to sleep when she had him. She came home with a moses basket instead. It was nice for like 2 months. But then guess what? My son was way too tall and off she went to the baby store to buy the playpen/bassinet she went for in the first place. We have lots of babies on the way in the family, so it won't go to waste, but for your child, it would be.

I used a bassinette on wheels instead b/c it was roomier and I didn't like the support in the bottom of the baskets. The wheels came in handy going from room to room, also helped rock or move the baby to help get them to sleep.

I tried using one and found it cumbersome and I was always concerned about the lack of support in the bottom of the basket.

More than anything, I used the bouncy seat, It was portable and II could see what my baby was doing when she was in it.(Unlike the basket) I also liked that it was small and sturdy enough to sit on a table or the kitchen counter.

They are great! Perfect for those first few months when they sleep so much and you want to keep them close by. I would definately recommend them. And the plus?? They come in such cute fabrics and styles, so much fun! Great for photos!
