Yes, I try to give helpful hints for homework style questions generally I give them some keywords to look up. There's nothing wrong with getting some help when you don't understand something but why bother doing homework at all if they're not going to think about it.
Depressingly there are a lot of questions written directly from their question sheet, without I suspect even being read. Surely it would be better to type it into wikipedia themselves.

Probably but what is wrong with helping people? If they learn from the answers and can then tackle similar ones on their own then that is win win. If they don't learn then they lose. Others could win by seeing the answers and you win if you have taken trouble over an answer. If you haven't then you deserve to lose.
Oh, and if you are looking for a finals question in ethics state the above and simply add 'discuss.'

Students are taught to use all the resources available to them - as long as they aren't posting their entire take home test for others to answer (which would just be silly since people have a lot of crazy opinions/facts on here) and just looking for backup or a new perspective on their class work then what is the harm?

I've only asked a few questions on here pertaining to school, but I don't ask direct questions from my homework. Instead, I might ask a question while I'm studying for a test or to see why something was marked wrong on a test. Perhaps others are doing the same thing, although I suspect you are correct in your assumption!

I believe that it's fine for students to ask for the help of others, if indeed it is genuine help and not simply asking for answers to problems just for the sake of getting a result.
I also believe that you'd be pretty silly not to ask for help if you're struggling with a new idea or concept, asking for help with methods on how to solve problems only aids students in their learning process.
If students are asking others to check their answers to problems they have already attempted to solve, then again, I don't see any fault here either, knowing that you've got a problem correct can only boost your confidence when dealing with tricky calculations etc...
Thumbs up to all who give their time to help others on here, I know I'd certainly appreciate it :)

ummm no.iv never seen that and as a matter of fact it would take way to long to get someone to do enough to make a dent in the learning the student receives from homework over yahoo answers

If people don't want to take the time to learn basic math, then it's really themselves they are screwing over in the end. I don't know many universities that accept incoming freshman who don't have an understanding of basic algebra. So I guess if people are checking their answers, that's okay, but if they're just copying down the answers then maybe you are right.

Yes, there are lots of kids on here asking homework questions. And lots of other folks on here answering them. Doesn't mean they're all correct answers though.'

Yes, it appears that way to me, too. How do they know that these people will answer their questions honestly?? They would have to do their own homework to know whether the answers were right or not.
