would you leave if he told you too.....after he let the some of the children go but still held children hostage?

I wouldn't......he'd have to shoot me first....just wondering how many other people could not make themselves leave that situation. With the three latest school shootings I am feeling rather disgusted with some of the people we entrust out children too.

how do you know if you don't try......I wouldn't leave a bank if there was a robbery and women, children or the elderly were there........Its not about a job, its about the character of the person you are. I have children, but I would still take a stand and protect yours!

Yes ashenflow I am still staying........perhaps as an adult I could reason with the intruder......its at least worth a try.

I am not judging anybody....I know how most people think.......most people don't get involved......I do. On 9/11 a lot of people didn't get involved.....the passengers of Flight 93 did.......those are the kind of people I look up to.

Jamie, this isn't a game, no one scoffed. Why would you think this is a silly question, I give you credit for saying you hope you would be brave enough.......and I have fought for life thank you......but I was this way before.....it doesn't have to be children......if I have to be the bravest because others are terrified I will.....

I don't recall asking for a pat answer dear....I want to hear how others think and hopefully make them think. Thought provocation was the purpose.....seeing how you folks look at is also the purpose.

No, I wouldn't leave them alone.

I was sexually assulted by two males when I was in my freshman year of high school and after that I started carrying two knives with me to school. One was a large pocket knife with a locking blade, and the other was a large Bowie knife that I had strapped to my leg as a backup. A week later I was forced to defend myself and I was no longer the helpless victim.

To this day, I still carry a pocket knife everywhere I go just in case I have to defend myself. I also walk with a cane, and I know how to use it and other common items I carry as weapons.

Anyway, the point is if anybody ever messes with me they have no idea what they are getting themselves into, because I have tried to kill myself once. I suffer from major depression and anxiety with anger issues. I already know that I will have no problem killing anybody that messes with me, even if it means risking my own life.

So, no I would not leave those kids or any kids alone with a gun man or men. If I thought the kids were safe, I would just wait and see what happens, but if I thought they were in danger I would wait for the first oppertunity and attack. If there life was in immediate danger, then I would not wait and attack right away. I would probably try using a calm approach like I wanted to try and reason with them to get closer to them before attacking to increase my odds.

It's very hard to say. We'd all LIKE to think that in that situation, we would do the brave and noble thing. I'm pretty sure all of those teachers had also thought the same thing...until they're actually face to face with a loaded gun. I'm pretty sure that even everyone here who is going to answer, "Of course I'd stay to protect the children!" actually would not. I don't doubt anyone's intentions. Sitting at my computer in my niec safe room, I will gladly say that if the situation arose where I had to risk my life to save some children, I certainly don't INTEND to do the cowardly thing and save myself. I certainly INTEND to put my life on the line to save some kids. However, in almost every case like this, where someone has to make the decision to save themselves, instinct usually kicks in and you just do what you have to do to live, no matter what your original intentions were. And besides....even if someone HAD decided not to leave, what good would it do? The gunman would just shoot them and move on.

I think this is a pretty silly question to ask, like this is a video game or something. It's so easy to sit here and scoff those teachers out there for leaving the children behind....but unless we've actually been in that situation, we shouldn't judge.

There is no way that I would leave. The gunmen would have to shoot me before he could get his hands on the remaining children. I would be scared but, I get some of my best ideas when fear is factored into any situation. Biding ones time is always the best strategy when it comes to these types of situations. I know that there is no way that I would be able to live with myself if I left those children. Like Mr. Kipling said " The female of the species is more deadly than the male". I believe it, so it is so.

As a teacher we are trained to do the best we can for the most of our kids. We are of more use to the cops and the childrent hat have been set free then we are to anyone dead. Yes it is a very very hard thing to walk out of that classrromm and I will never forget my own experiences but overall a living teacher is worth a lot more then a "superhero" dead teacher or one that is held hostage themselves.
Trust me it is not the cowrd teacher that walks out but the strong one. It's hard and it hurts and I can guaruntee that the teacher is just as frustrated and disgusted that a child in their care was harmed.

I wish nobody got shot... a dead teacher is no better than a coward one. The teacher unfortunately is not the problem, the crazy and evil gunmen are. The situation is really sickening. I never thought I would actually feel real fear when leaving my children at school each morning. We need a lot of prayer.

-No one can really say how they would react. Don't judge, We don't have the answers. I would hope to be strong enough to refuse to leave and die with the children. I wonder , too. It seems to me that these kinds of horror happen in so called "safe" schools. We come from Chicago's inner city and this kind of killing doesn't happen there. Yes, kids are killed and injured every day in the schools there but not en-masse.

well i would have to say if the children died that would kill me see i tend to hang on to things i feel sssooooo guilty for things in the past that it would bother me so much. I'm still bothered by stuff from like 2 years ago
it's so bad but i just feel so bad i mean it sticks with mean so having that guilt that i wasn't there to try to save the children would kill me i couldn't handle that so i would stay even if the guy didn't want me to i would say let one child go and i will stay in their place

I have my own children and I know that value of children.
If I were the teacher or adult in the classroom I would stay, their parents have trusted me with their children and I would stay with them.

I LOVE my children more then anything and I would never want a parent to go through the loss of their child/ren.

In all reality, if the gunman demands that the adult(s) must leave, it would be pointless to argue with him/her. I would be more useful for the children alive then lying there bleeding to death from the gunshot wound.
I am also disgusted (even though I don't have kid) by these latest tradegies. However, prevent them from happening again is almost impossible.

I think that he would have to do whatever is best to save as many lives as possible and prevent injury when possible. That might mean walking out the door with most but not all the children.

He does no good to anyone if he's killed on the spot, especially if this provokes the gunman to go on an immediate rampage.
