We are having a Halloween party for my children
and their cousins, ranging from 12-1 years old.
We want to make it more festive than scary.
But a little scary for the older kids. There are more younger ones than older ones(4-8yrs is the
average)
I needs ideas on everything from food, decorations, games and prizes!!!!!

All ideas welcome, :)

I love this question there are tons of things you can do:

- You can start by making it a generally un-bloody costume party (taht way the younger kids dont need to worry about blood... you can still have vamps and what not, just exne the blood).... have prizes for every child. Funniest, scariest, most unique, cutest... so on and so forth. make sure every child gets a prize. You can get fun things at the dollar store or Oriental Trading magazine or online in bulk and its generally cheap.

- Pinatas are great ideas as well. just make sure that you have extra mini bags of candy so its fair. everyone should go home with equal parts.

- Hay ride if you live in the country.

- Pumpkin painting. You dont have to carve. Just have a station where the kids can paint a face on a small mini pumpkin.

- Bobbing for apples. Or tie a string around a doughnut and then tie the string to the ceiling. The kids have to eat the doughnut without using their hands. Its hilarious

- Make sure you take lots of pics... you could get a poloroid and get kids pics with their pumpkins.

- As for a cake. A spider cake if fun to make. Use a batter to make a circle cake and then make legs and eyes out of cupcakes. Its fun.

- For the older kids there is a game where you have different items, such as peeled grapes, wet spaghetti, a furry hat, things like that, that are covered up. I used a shoebox with a hole and a cloth so they couldnt see it. I made up different things for each item. Labeling the boxes such as eyeballs from a witch (peeled grapes), frankenstiens bolts (real bolts covered in jelly), guts (spaghetti)... it was hilarious watching the kids eyes.

- Also fake fortune telling. Use fortune cookie like ideas and have a fake crystal ball. Give fortunes like. When the sky is overly blue you will have a day that is fantastic and watch out for a bully who is wearing red. Funny sayings as well.

- Have fun with it! Just a few ideas.

I would look on the internet to find fun foods to make for the party. With the Halloween holiday coming around there should be plenty of sites that have fun ideas for food. As for decorations I would go for the traditional and maybe have a little mini haunted house in the basement for the older kids.

Young kids:
*Hang a tissue over a tootsiepop and tie it to the stick. Add some eyes and a mouth with a sharpie and you've got a ghost.

Older kids:
*Peel some grapes so that they are skinnless. Have them look away and feel what's in the bowl... Tell them it's eyeballs!
*Make Caramel Apples
