It depends. Does it say a word requirement on your application materials?
Different schools ask for different lengths, from 250 words to 750 words or more.

If it doesn't say how long it should be on your application, call the school's admissions department and ask. They won't mind. I went to two colleges for undergraduate work (Virginia Commonweath, and West Chester University), and I'm going to a third (Villanova) for a graduate degree. Every school gives you a different guideline.

Call or email the admissions department to ask.
