Why are people prepared to believe that Ghosts are dead people but laugh at the idea that they are?

Question

time travellers en route to their destination? People can't accept that it's a slight error in temporal navigation, but can believe that it's a dead person!

Your thoughts on this... or alternative explanations for "ghosts" (apart from making people like Derek Acorah money)

At first I wasn't sure how to take your question, but having thought about it for a few minutes I can see your point... people tend to believe what they want to believe, and will ignore the facts or other possibilities.

You question brings to mind another question... people ask "if time travel is possible, why haven't we met any time travellers?"

Perhaps we have, and not realised it... throughout the ages people have seen Ghosts and maybe came up with the idea that they are dead spirits because of religious upbringing (the holy ghost etc..).

Another possibility is a visual echo... you can see a mirage in the desert of a city that may be hundreds of miles away. Because of the speed of light, you would be seeing the city as it was a few seconds ago. If you look at the sun, you are seeing the sun as it was eight minutes ago. Perhaps there's a way for a visual echo to be seen many years later?

Walden (above) made a good point about clothes... but a time traveller going to the past, or returning to the future would probably wear clothing contemporary to the time they are travelling to.. so you wouldn't see anyone in futuristic clothing, but only clothing of our current past.

But your time travel idea is interesting, but not provable I suppose until if or when time travel is invented.

There is nothing rong with ya head dude, ghost are dead people that have died and there is a big diff between ghost and spirit people need to no this, GHOST are people that have died but dont no that they are dead or scead of leving there loved ones as they do not no what is next or what the light is, or are not ready to lev the earth plain yet, when you deal with ghost some people say that some ghost need a helping hand and need to no that its okay to go to the light and that there is love ones waiting for them in the light etc....some ghost are offten the sceptic ones also when they were alive and never beleved in life after death so in some way when they have past they dont no what the heck has happend and they think they are still alive and they try and contact the living also and find that noone can here them witch can be real anoying to them also, and SPIRITS are ones that have pasted over and come back every now and then to warn there loved ones, so thats the diff between GHOST and SPIRITS, so all you sceptic people out there it may be time to have a open mind and not laugh and what you dont no becoz the truth is there is live after death as i have seen to much not to belev!!! i no that meny other people have also, so if ya think seeing is beleving then think bout this, if you havent been to china and seen it be4 then does it meen that china dont exist???? think bout it, and to laff bout the dead well well be carefull coz what gos around comes around, :) belev dat!!

There are other theories about ghosts that sometimes we may be seeing a parallel universe. In other words the ghosts may not be ghosts at all, but living, breathing beings living in the same space as we do, but only in a parallel plane.

If time travel is possible, would not the time travelers be as solid and human as we? Therefore we would not mistake them as ghosts would we? We can however mistake ghosts as human until they disappear that is.

Well it seems like alot of the ghosts and ghost stories that Ive heard of involve people who are clearly wearing older clothing, much like they are from the past. Time travelers would almost certainly have to come from the future since we have no evidence that anyone ever invented a time machine throughout history to this point and people from the future would not be wearing clothes from the past. Or would they.....?

i do not recognize if this helps a lot yet I tell it besides, it really is about how i imagine I died once and got here again from the useless. properly it became a summers day 2 years in the past & on the time I had my router for my computing device in my bedroom on a rack above my mattress & properly that day I it became giving some subject matters proper so I went to bypass mess with it by skill of status on my mattress proper & what happen became I contact the router i began to sense effortless headed & afterwards my eyesight went darkish i might want to no longer see some thing & almost immediately after that I lost stability fell off my 3ft tall mattress & i became 5ft 8 on the time & I took a ninety degree fall onto the sting of my evening stand & after I hit the sting hit the floor very difficult and that i previous out & as I exceeded out I felt like my respiration supply up & I rember seeing my useless body on the floor so became I seize in limbo or what & I awakened after listening to a Deathly Voice telling me to upward push up. So yeah if I had a out of body time then yeah ghost will be very authentic even possibly a Reaper that opt for's me alive for all i recognize or possibly I were given some form of destiny & accepted i imagine to my self why me of each of the folk contained in the international.

I loved the movie, "The Others", but it didn't surprise me as much as the movie, "Sixth Sense" did. It would have been so good if they spaced out the twist ending between these movies.

They kinda left too many clues that Nicole Kidman was a ghost living amongst the living. Yeah, I could see that either way, all freak each other out since it's "Unfamiliar".

I have often supposed some ghost activity to be a form of temporal anomaly. As we all know time travel is only possible with a TARDIS but I have never considered time to be as linear as we percieve it and ghosts are where parts almost overlap.

I belive this qusetion can be answered with 2 popular terms 1. Religon and 2.Hollywood. Basicaly in almost any religon they tell you your soul or your life ora and in hollywood the make fun of that kind of stuff for profit.

Suppose anythings a possibility whilst no hard evidence is found. Very very undecided on this subject, i think there is a range of things that could be responsible.
