What should I tell him so he writes me some prescriptions and doesn't hold out on me? I don't want to waste co-pay to just hear his psychobabble.

Although, you could go to a psychiatrist, I think that they are trained to see through people and they aren't going to just hand out a prescription for valium and xanax, they would probably suggest try something else like an ssri. However, if you really do want these i would try going to a general practioner or family practice medical doctor, since they seem to write out a prescription for just about anything.

Well, first of all you will need to see a psychiatrist since they are the ONLY type of therapist who is allowed by law to write prescriptions. And any psychiatrist worth his/her salt will see right through you in short order no matter what you say.
