I am currently in school and working for a hospital in the NICU. I am married and have 1 son and 1 stepson both 8 years old. I cant decide what to do with myself. I was a nursing major but the long hours and stress take away from my family so I was looking into becoming a paralegal. All of my college hours will apply to either degree plan and I need an unbias opinion. (My son doesnt have his father around and my husband works long hours so he spends most of his time with my parents) Which career would be best? I am 24 and would like to have one or two more kids soon.

Staying home is not an option!

You don't need a job outside the home now do you? You have to take care of those babies.

Look into becoming an independent contractor - check out West Inc. ( www.west.com ) - it's not going to make use of your nursing skills but it does require an intelligent mind. The job is incredibly flexible.

Best wishes,

If you think the hours are long now, Just wait a few years, they do not get better ! I worked an NICU for about two years, and you burn out really quick there. I changed to PICU, and then to an ICU, and ER, where I am at this time. I do not know what to tell you. Sometimes I wish I had chosen a different path, and sometimes not. But I will say that the stress is always there, and the hour's are always long ! Good luck on you're decision !

I am also a mom of 2. It always sounds nice to step up and try to make more money.......but do you really want your children to feel like there grandparents are more like there parents then you are!!! I spend as much of my time as I can with my children. I notice they act a lot better when they are with me for long periods of time than going here....then to that house....and so on. do you know what i mean?
