Use Mr. Lastname.

It is always better to be over formal and not offend, than to be too casual up front.

After a phone conversation and some familiarity, then it is alright, but not now.

When addressing a President, Vice-President or anyone who is above you in your line of work. You always treat them with the utmost respect. So, when addressing a letter or e-mail to this person you use your salutation:Dear Ms./Mrs./Mr. and you can either use both their first name and last or just their last. The only time you do not do this is if you and this person becomes comfortable around each other and they give you permission to address them by only their first name.

Do you know his last name? If so address him as Dear Mr. ____. That is proper and not weird.
