To Leonard L's response, as a teacher, I have to disagree with the statement that most teachers are only interested in their benefits and raises as opposed to discipline . . . in these days, discipline for the most part is out of our hands . . we can send the kid out, but once they get to the office, it all depends on the principal . . and if a teacher is only interested in the money they make, they're definitely in the wrong profession . . . . I think that educational jobs have always been somewhat of a risk . . . especially in school systems that have limited funding . . the school where I work has no metal detectors or resource officers, so we're coming in contact with kids and have no idea what they might have in their pockets . . and if something does break out, like a fight, or a riot, or whatever, we're expected to jump in a break it up . . . I think that what we're expected to do is wayyy more than we should have to do . . .

This is yet another school shooting, and although it doesn't seem like a patern to many, I would be very apprehensive sending my kids to school in these times.

Teachers have lost a lot during the course of the last forty years. They once had complete control and any unusual behavior they took charge of immediately, and there was hell to pay (then).

Today, teachers are more concerned with their benefits and pay raises before tackling dicipline problems.

Now, of course this latest incident appears to be a distraught individual harboring a ghost and having an inhibition which should have been obvious to relatives and neighbors.

So, to all out there, I say beware those who speak little and hardly ever smile. They usually have something inside that could later become a major problem for society.

As you can judge by all my answering and in depth questioning, I am an extrovert with a passion for communication, so there isn't anything you need worry about types like myself.

I hope I gave this problem due attention to the detail it deserves.

I work in a large, very large school district where the teachers are not allowed to really discipline the kids. Basically all they can do is take away recess and send the kids to the office...where the principal has made it clear she is not there to handle discipline problems but only to do administrative duties. And I don't know if this is a plus or minus...but the staff and teachers have been told never to break up a fight, just to call the school police or the office. Although I am not sure what the office would do since they have all that paperwork to do instead of disciplining the kids...But in my school we do not have a full time school police officer...we just have one stop by about once every 2 weeks.

Educational jobs, are not at risk due to events that happen. We just have to try to be as save as we can.
