he has been married 3 times and had numerous relationships all of which lasted a year max and ended the same way - his violence - what is missing in him?

I myself have always believed that men take their anger out on women when they are mad at other men and to chicken **** to fight them. Word of advice, next time he hits you, stand your ground and hit him back, if he knocks you down, bite his ankles, he will stop when he finds he can't scare you anymore.

I would have to disagree with the people who said that he probably does it because its what he saw when he was younger. This could be the case however I watched my father hit my mother and all it did was reinforce my belief that you NEVER EVER hit a women! Personally I think he needs MAJOR HELP! If after three relationships that all ended the same way he did not wonder why and go seek help BEFORE getting involved with you he must feel that what he is doing is okay. ANY man who could hit a women for ANY reason....well to be blunt ....is a worthless piece of garbage...Especially when he KNEW what he was like and the problems he has BEFORE starting a relationship with you.
Best advice I can see in this case is get the hell out...you can not help someone who will not help themselves.
Go find someone who TRULY loves you and knows how to treat the person that they are supposedly in love with....life is WAY tooooo short to live like this!

What's missing is EMPATHY and IMPULSE CONTROL.
This man is suffering from advances NARCISSISM.
I refer to it as "entitlement syndrome". That's where one is so narcissistic that they feel the world should cater to them, orbit them, and their priorities. They can do whatever, say whatever, and treat pther people however they want because everything is all about them. They are always right, and all with opposing views are wrong.
Seeking to eliminate the competition, or opposing view is a defense mechanism. When one is intimdated by opposing views, sometimes their passion for being right leads them into a rage. Add to that poor impulse control and enetitlement syndrome, and there you have it; a wife beater.
Three failed marraiges is a huge waving red flag that he has issues. After all, in all of those relationships, who is the common denominator? HIM. He probably wrote things off as "her problem" and refused to own anything himself. They left him for a real man.

I really think the way he was raised probally has something to do with it. If there was a lot of violence around him or to him, he might think thats the way he is suppose to act when he gets mad. Not that it's right. Look at it this way- if you spank your kid when they do something wrong and they know you're upset with them, what is that really teaching them? When your're mad it's alright to hit. I think whats missing in him is a normal childhood.

WHO EVER HE IS HE'S POSSED BY THE DEVIL. I think all men who hit their women should go to hell!! End of STORY.! And if it's happening to you, get out of the relationship quick because trust me they will hit you and then cry and say they'll never do it again. Only until they feel that rage and then they strike.
