I know I need more RAM for my Dell desktop. Do I get additional RAM or do I replace the RAM I have? What other questions do I need to answer before I purchase?

I like to play games, download music, etc. and I only have 128mb right now. Help!

Hi there

Depending on whether you have any free slots on your motherboard, you may or may not need to remove some of your RAM. You say you have 128 MB of RAM. I would imagine that this is just one 128 MB chip. You will have at least one more slot available for adding memory. You may have 2 or 3 more slots. The RAM that you add doesn;t have to be of the same value, i.e, 128 MB. If you like playing up to date games, you will need quite a lo of RAM. Visit www.pcpitstop.com

This will give you full details of all your hardware inside your computer including the RAM you have installed. It will tell you how many chips you have installed, the capacity they are (128 MB) 256 MB) etc) and it will tell you how many RAM slots you have free. You will need to check with Dell what type of RAM you have so that you know what RAM to buy. You may have DDR RAM, but check this with Dell. I am running 512 MB of RAM in my PC. You will need at least this much RAM for your games to run effectively. Check your graphics card against the system requirements of any games you buy to make sure that your graphics card meets the minimum specifications.

Hope this helps.

Scott

If you have only 128mb, Its probably too old to be useful.
I think you should put the money toward a newer computer.

You should go for something with a gigabyte of ram, a core 2 duo cpu, and at least a geforce 7600 or ATI x1600 graphics card. Thats pretty much all you need.

I upgraded my RAM at www.crucial.com. The site asks you a few questions to determine the PC you're upgrading and then gives you your options. It's a pretty quick service too; I seem to recall RAM being delivered in about 2 days from ordering online.

You need to know if your computer motherboard has empty slots, like mine, or if you have already used what u have. Newer models usuallyhave empty slots. Dell will tell u if you enter your model no. on their website and look for specifications.

Also, u need to find out what the max size RAM ur comptr can take

Go to the below link. Enter your computer specifics in the memory configurator and it'll tell you what kind and how much RAM your computer can support. Once you know that, shop around for the best prices. Kahlon is pretty good and so is Chief Value.
