I have been taking amoxicillin for a throat infection - I started taking them last Monday evening and they began to kick in around Wednesday - on Friday I developed really bad acid feelings coming up from my right side - I have suffered with acid before but it comes from the pit upwards not from my right side - this was really painful and even drinking water was making my insides burn, from Friday all weekend I could hardly eat anything and as well as the acid feelings I feel very full and bloated even though I have hardly eaten anything, I have tried Andrews salts and today Alka Seltzer to get rid of the feelings and apart from the acid getting milder I am still feeling so full - I was wondering if this could be a reaction to the medication and am thinking it caused a reaction on the lining of my stomach or something - I stopped taking them Friday night and havent taken any since just in case - has anyone else had reactions like this before ?

It is possible the the antibiotic has killed off some of the flora in your intestinal tract that was acting as a buffer to the acid.

Eat yogurt each day to replenish some of it. The rest will have to grow back after you are done with the antibiotics.

Amoxicillin is handed out like confetti, so it is probably safe.

However, it may not work with other medicines. I has a strange temporary reaction with Dovonex a skin cream.

Throat infections (modern practice) seem to be caused by a virus (or the immune system response) so there is very little point taking Amoxiciliin, probably won't do any harm, but not any good either. Doctors know that the in the small % of there being a secondary bacterial infection is ahead of the even remoter chance that the drug will kill more good than harmful bacteria, but even that is questionable.

The local virus is a bloody nuisance and a a few stomach complaints have been felt f by a few people (well one confirmed by the hospital I know of). My best guess it is the germ.

It's possible. A good number of people don't tolerate Amoxicillin well, better known by its brand name, Augmentin. I was taking it once for something, and then I started to develop a burning sensation when I would take a leak. Better call your doctor and tell him what's going on.

Amoxicillin should always be taken with food as it aids in absorption. Some people do react to certain antibiotics with an upset stomach. If the problem persists you should contact your doctor and switch antibiotics.

Amoxycillin is more likely to cause diarrhoea than Acidity. But, I wouldn't say it is not possible. Next time on try to take it on full stomach may be you should feel better.
Now please dont label yourself as ALLERGIC TO AMOX. this is only a side effect and not allergic reaction.
