My mom and I got a new number like seven months ago and people continually call asking for someone who had the previous number. My mother and I poliety answer them and say they have the wrong number. Seriously I am really getting sick of it it happens like 3 times a week from this one number and twice a week from a collecter. We poliety tell them its the wrong number. They either say sorry or just hang up. I seriously don't want to be a bit*h about it but they call continually. What do i do?

I could sort of relate to your situation. I get tons of telemarketer calls even though my numbers are on the Do Not Call List. For a while, I let the answering machine pick up, but they don't leave a message. If it's so important why don't they leave me a message right? Instead, I started picking up the calls in Chinese and it's freakin halirious because I totally confused so many callers and since they don't speak Chinese the last lady blurted out, "Thank You" and hung up on me. Which usually, I'm the one who hangs up first. Just make up stuff, stories, names, just anything when people dial your number next time. If it's telemarketers and your number is on the Do Not Call List, tell them to take your number off their list.

it would be to much like right to just answer the phone only if you recognize the number on your caller ID,turn off the ringer, or let the other end leave a message, but if you do answer the phone not only just tell them they have the wrong number but tell them to PLEASE remove your number from thier list,if you dont tell them to remove they will continue to call, and further more do not give the callers any of your personal information just so they can hear they have the wrong number, and if you have voice mail or answering machine leave a message that,(use a nick name that friends and family only know),that this phone is for no one else,be creative. bill collectors sometimes may be recording and all they need to hear is REMOVE my number from your list....good luck

Not much you can do unless you want to change your number again. If it is the same number calling then see if your phone company has a block call option. Then you can block the number from calling again. For the bill collector try asking to speak to their supervisor or get their information and send them a formal letter saying that they need to remove your number from their call list or you will file a report with the police for harassment. You can try telling them that over the phone before you send a letter too. Then keep a log of date and time they call and report it.

You sometimes get to be the lion, other times your the lamb.

Time to earn your roar, my dear, and there are many ways to do so. Here are a few of my favorites:

Ask for their callback number, then call their *ss at 4 in the morning...(rollplay) "That's not very funny..who is this?....{insert name of person asked for here} died yesterday. You are a sick bastard calling here like this!" then hang up...

...my personal favorite!!! (roleplay) "{insert the jerk's name here} is in bed, who the he*l is this?!!!" No matter what, bring it back to the conversation that you and (s)he did the nasty the night before and (s)he is not in the mood to talk to "YOU!!!!!" Slam the phone down.

Repeat until you either get satisfaction or they stop calling.

The phone company will change your number for free if you are getting these types of calls on a regular basis. I know it's a pain, but I have had to do this too for the exact same reason.

You could get a caller id and not answer anymore, or you could call the phone company and explain the situation and they should change the phone number for free because of your inconvenience. Or you could begin answering the phone saying hello (your last name) residence Then maybe they will get the message that they have the wrong number. Good luck to you.

we tried an answering machine message that said," leave a message for (name) or(name) and for us only do not leave a message for any one else, because their is no one else here" this greatly reduced the number of calls ,but some idiots still left messages so we would call them and make fun of them for not following the instructions. good luck.

I had this happen and I let the machine/voicemail answer with my last name in the message and after about a month it seemed to work.

Hope this helps!

The previous owner obviously did bad business, you will have to change the number again.
