Probably because they don't know how to.
What do you do? Pass a law against school shootings? It's already illegal.
Set up a government program to counsel troubled kids that are at risk of doing something like this? I don't know. Do we really want another stupid government program.

Honestly, I think most problems government is not good at solving. There's so much money (from taxes) and when there's a bunch of money there's a bunch of corrupt people trying to get it for themselves. They're really good at spending billions pretending to try to solve problems. In the end it seems things just get worse because the regular citizens expect the government to solve their problems instead of solving the problems themselves.
I think most of the politicians (D and R) don't care that much about the country or it's citizens. Their main focus is keeping their gig.
Most importantly, this is a societal problem. I think it comes from the human secular world view that see people as biological accidents with no creator. When there's no god then we are our own gods and life can seem meaningless. When we are our own god's we are very often proud (as opposed to humble, thus the bad kind of proud) and selfish. This is probably an oversimplification of the problem...there are likely other factors, but I think this is a major one.

because we are waiting for the liberals to take control and do away with our right to bear arms.

You do understand that murder is a crime in this country, right?
(okay so conservatives cannot pass a law on that account)

You do understand that it is a crime to carry a weapon on school grounds?
(okay conservatives cannot pass a law on that one either)

You do understand, that of all the protections expressed in the Bill of Rights, none have been more strictly restricted than the previously mention Right to Bear Arms?
(well I guess we could pass another law asking people to listen to the other laws already passed)

You do understand that people are stabbed to death, hit by cars, drown, killed by wild animal, etc?

So therefore, the person who posted this brilliantly thought out question hereby proposes the following;

1. Possession of a knife is illegal. Sporks are allowed, but only in plastic form.

2. All cars must come equipped with a foam front end to prevent deaths from car accidents.

3. All cement ponds (pools) must be covered over. Only plastic pools no taller than 16 inches are allowed. A government certified Life Guard must be present whenever in use.

4. All animals must die to prevent attacks on humans. The guns and knives are illegal so we cannot use those. It would look wierd if we drown them all in a 16 inch tall plastic pool, so we must do the only right thing. Abort the baby animal "fetus".

You get what I am saying. Access to guns in restricted. Where you take a gun is restricted. How a gun is used is restricted. Murder is illegal. WHAT MORE DO YOU WANT?

I know it sounds cliche, but if you criminalize guns, only criminals will have them. And of the criminal, victim, and cop, who gets there last.

There is not really a conservative power base. They cannot simply ramrod whatever legislation they want through the House or the Senate. The House Dems can filibuster bills to death and the Senate...well they have their own ways of letting things wither on the vine.
If things were really as bad as some on the left have implied, then we would have Army tanks and soldiers on every corner of every big city in the country with a hint of a crime problem.
Now as a vet of the Iraqi campaign--and one who agrees that it is a major waste of resources and lives--let me say that this is the one area that the current administration seems to get its way. Otherwise, the Prez is just about as "Lame Duck" as he can be.

I don't think this is something that can be prevented by any one group of people. I still believe this is an anomaly ... a fluke and not the norm. How can any one group of people prevent something so unpredictable? Even the town of Bailey had thoroughly prepared for such an incident, but in no way could they prevent it 100%.

The Conservatives are unable to do anything that might prevent school shootings because they are completely dependent upon the support of the rabid gun lobby as represented by the NRA: thus, no conservative dare consider even the most minimal measure of gun control in this country.

They encourage gun ownership and discourage any reasonable limits such as a ban on assault weapons. Their militancy and strident divisiveness creates a climate or culture of anger in the US. While Republicans may not be responsible per se for any particular shootings, their policies and their basic philosophy of governing and their cultural values certainly do nothing to DIScourage or prevent school shootings.

Okay, this is way out in left field. School security is and should be a local issue. I don't want the federal government telling us how to secure our local schools. To blame the fed would be just silly.
These events should be a wake up call to local school boards to review their security measures. Innocence has been lost (and has been for quite some time now). If your local school is not doing everything it can to protect your school, you need to elect new school board members.

However, in all fairness, even the best of protection can fail at time. It is tragic, but it happens.
