You might just be having a lighter period this time. You might be experiencing break-through bleeding (bleeding in between periods), but I don't think that usually last longer than a day or so. You might have a heavier day, so you just want to be prepared. If you have a couple of cycles like this that are very different from your regular cycles, go see your doctor. Something might be up with your body. It could be a variety of things; stress, change in diet, change in lifestyle, sickness, and other things. Don't be too worried now, sometimes our bodies just get a little out of whack.

First periods are always usually the lightest you will have ever, unless you are on birth control pills.

For the first few, it might be irregular and you need to keep a calendar if you can't keep track of when its coming.

It should get gradually heavier, some women never have heavy periods and some have extreamly heavy ones. If it gets too heavy after your first few periods, talk to your mother and maybe go talk to your doctor about it.

The second day of your period is usually the heaviest, and then thins out from there. Its really a cycle...goes from light to heavy to light as it goes away. And it is also normal, at the end of your period to have a brown or mucosy discharge as the blood begins to stop flowing.

I hoped that helped.

Are you on or have you recently started taking birth control or other hormone-based medication? The Pill lightens up most women's cycles.
Your period could just be changing.
Mine went from 4 days of very heavy bleeding, to 4 days of semi-light, down to 2 heavy days, and so on - this was over an 18-month period right before I started on the Pill to regulate it. After getting off the pill, it stayed regular.
