dots per inch...the more dpi the more detailed the digital image is.

Dots per inch standards: Screen resolution and web-based pictures: 72 DPI
Newspaper: 150-300 DPI
Magazine and print material: 300 DPI or more
High-quality Photo print: 1200 DPI.
The average human is not going to be able to tell the difference between a 300 DPI print and anything higher, it'll just "Look better".
The file size of high DPI images can be beyond ridiculous. An 81/2X11 300 DPI image usually runs over 10 megabytes.
