I don't know that I would call it foreshadowing exactly. I'd say that being such an avid reader has given me the strength of what's called "pattern recognition." I've seen some of life's situations in many books and know how they turn out, so I take what I've seen before and apply it as a probable sequence of events.
As for metaphors, strong background knowledge allows us to apply any new situation to one we've already experienced in order to understand it. "Metaphor" may not be as appropriate as "simile," considering how many people describe their lives by beginning, "It's like..."

Metaphors - yes, I can often find those. Subjectivity's no problem with metaphors.
But I've learned not to trust "foreshadowing" too much. Far too often I read into events the future I WANT to happen.

I'm rather a fan of foreshadowing and metaphors, so I tend to look for them in any book that I read. It doesn't matter which one.

You don't have to look. After a while you see them all around you like trees. Comes with age.
