Considering that about a third of the House is publicly onboard with the Fair Tax, yes. Eventually, enough Americans are going to figure out that what we have is not working.

No, there is too much opposition to the flat tax. In order to pass any sort of significant tax reform, you need cooperation from both parties. A flat tax isn't so much a reform as a scrapping of the current US tax code. There is no way that enough Democrats would agree to an effectively regressive tax such as the flat tax for it to make it out of Congress.

A flat tax is regressive because while everyone pays the same percentage of their income, those with lower incomes are much less able to lose that percentage than higher income groups. $1000 to someone making $10,000 is very different from $20,000 to someone making $200,000. And Democrats get all fired up whenever somone says "regressive tax".

NO! It's not fair to the middle class, and lower middle class. The rich will get richer, and the poor will get poorer. The reason for this is the fact that the working class and the poor would have to pay a higher percent of taxes to the fed govt. Remember the top 5 percent pay like half the taxes in the country or something like that, so if we made it flat, the rich would pay less so the difference would have to come from somewhere. Bascially the economy would shut down cause the middle/working class would not have the $ to afford much.

No it makes too much sense. To many people get rich off of the current system. To many rich people can avoid taxation and politicians can raise taxes if they can hide it, they cannot with a flat tax.

Plus you have he left who thinks that it will affect the poor more harshly, as if I had the numerous accountant and tax lawyers as Bill Gates.

There is too much corruption for them to ever turn lose of the current system.

We can only hope so. Even better would be to turn to a national sales tax, where each person is only taxed on what they spend, not what they earn. I don't see it happening in the near future, however, because too many people are listening to the insane arguments that we need to pay more taxes, or even worse, the rich (where do you draw that line?) need to pay a lot more.

Hopefully not. Hopefully, we'll scrap the entire income tax system as a whole and replace it with the FairTax
